Choosing a Tap ...

There are six basic types of tap. They are categorized by use.

1.Kitchen sinks

Faucets which are designed for use with a kitchen sink have a high clearance so that you can fit large cooking pieces underneath them easily. They may also have a detachable spray head so that you can pull the top of the faucet out to hose down items which might otherwise be difficult to wash.

2. Bar sinks

These are usually a smaller version of the kitchen sink faucets. They are suitable for a small sink, but may look out-of-scale when paired with a larger sink.

3.Laundry sinks

These faucets are designed for use with large, tub-style laundry sinks. They usually extend out horizontally by six inches or more, which ensures that the spray is directed toward the center of the sink. Although somewhat lacking in style, they are quite useful

4. Bathroom sink

Bathroom sink faucets are smaller than kitchen sink faucets. Clearance is not such a great concern here, as you will probably not be placing many large pots underneath your bathroom sink faucet!

5. Bathtub faucet

These faucets are designed, naturally, for use with a bathtub or whirlpool tub. You will want to choose a faucet which has a fast flow-rate so that it can fill your tub in a minimal amount of time!

6.Shower faucets

Once upon a time, shower faucets consisted of a knob which you turned, to control water temperature, and pulled, to control water flow rate. Nowadays, you can have faucets which control a variety of body jets, with different spray patterns and intensity. When choosing a shower faucet, be sure it's compatible with the type of shower you wish to install.

More Options about Faucets

Here's a few things to consider when finding the faucet that's right for you.

Handles

The handle and the spout usually determine the style of faucets. Faucets can have single or two handles.

Single-handle faucets allow you to quickly and easily adjust the water flow and temperature with one single motion, using one hand. This is especially important when your hands are occupied, dirty or soapy. The ease of operation with one hand, or even a gentle nudge, often makes single-handle models a great choice for kitchen sink faucets and bath faucets, too.

Two-handle faucets allow more design flexibility and provide precise temperature adjustment with independent hot and cold controls. Two-handle models generally offer a wider selection of spout designs, with handles available in a variety of styles and finishes, including numerous lever, knob and cross-handle options. The style and design options often make the two-handle design the perfect choice for bathroom sink faucets.

Finish

Look for a long-lasting, low maintenance finish to complement your decor. Many manufacturers over a variety of finishes to match any interor decor.

There are different finishes that you can choose from. Pick something that will match with the other finishes in your kitchen. For example, if you have knobs or drawer pulls that are in satin nickel finish, pick a faucet with the same finish for an overall cohesive look. You can also pick a finish to compliment your appliances, for examples if you are using stainless steel appliances, try to use a finish that will blend well, and a good choice in this case is using brushed chrome or nickel finishes. The different finishes to choose from are: Chrome finish, white enamel finish, copper finish, brass, gold tones, bronze, brushed nickel, and satin nickel, to name a few.

Dripless Faucets

Consider how a new faucet will last. Or, more importantly, how long it will last without dripping. Faucets should offer long-term performance and be drip-free for life. Ceramic Disc Valving utilizes discs made of hardened ceramic, a durable material that won't wear out and won't leak

Scald Protection

For yourself and your family - this'll be important. Prior to purchase, check into this vital anti-scald feature. With this feature, you can set the maximum water temperature at a safe point, usually about 120 degrees. No matter how far the hot water control is pushed, the water temperature will never rise above the scalding point. In fact, some states require that all newly-installed faucets have scald protection.
